If you know Scripture, you know…

Today the Church celebrates the feast of Saint Jerome, one of the great Fathers of the Church, remembered especially for his tireless work in translating the Scriptures into Latin—the Vulgate. Jerome reminds us that the Word of God is not meant to remain distant or locked away in a language we cannot understand, but is a living Word that must reach the heart of every believer.

For Catholics who are finding their way back to the Church, Saint Jerome’s life is a powerful example. He was not always gentle or easygoing; he struggled with impatience and sharp words. Yet beneath his fiery personality was a man deeply in love with Christ and His Word. Jerome shows us that holiness is not about perfection from the start, but about perseverance, humility, and allowing God’s Word to shape us over time.

As Jerome once wrote, “Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.” If we desire to return to Christ, to rediscover our faith, the Scriptures are the surest guide. Jerome’s life teaches us that no matter our past or our struggles, God’s Word has the power to transform, to heal, and to lead us home.

May Saint Jerome intercede for all who are seeking renewal of faith, that the living Word may draw them closer to the heart of Christ and the fullness of life in the Church.
