Pope Benedict XVI

December 31 – Anniversary of His Death

Pope Benedict XVI was often misunderstood—but history will remember him as a gentle shepherd, a brilliant theologian, and a man profoundly in love with Christ.

In a world that tried to separate faith from reason, Benedict showed us that the two belong together. He reminded the Church that Christianity is not a list of rules, but a relationship with Jesus Christ, rooted in truth, beauty, and love.

As a teacher of the faith, Benedict believed clarity was an act of charity. He trusted the intellect of the faithful and never watered down the Gospel. Instead, he invited us to think deeply, pray reverently, and worship God with awe.

On this anniversary of his death, we give thanks for his witness:

• for his love of the Catechism

• for his defense of truth

• for his humility in stepping aside

• and for his lifelong “yes” to Christ

May his teachings continue to form minds and hearts for generations.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.
